Against the Grain
by Charlie Cochet
It’s scary, isn’t it?”
“What’s that?”
“How one person can become your whole world. One day you’re going about your business, and next thing you know, you’re handing someone all your trust, your love, your heart, everything you are. You’re just handing it over and hoping for the best.”
We've been watching Ash and Cael dance around one another for books and books. Now it's time for their own story. Ash is the permanently scowly lion therian, well except around Cael. He knows Cael could become his everything, but his past is holding him back.
Cael, sweet Cael, he would anything for Ash. What I loved most about him in this book, was he wasn't a doormat. He stood up for himself and showed courage where Ash couldn't. I swear I wanted to clap for him when he would call Ash out on his shitty behavior. On the other hand he was also a friend when Ash needed one. And Ash of all people could use a real friend. He could use someone to love him even more as he's never had that in his life.
"Thank you. For showing me what it’s like to be loved.”
Getting the real dirt on Ash and hearing him lay his heart and vulnerabilities down for Cael was heart breaking. But being Cael he knew just what to say and eventually the two worked through it. I was rooting for them, even though Ash is the guy you love to get teased by Dex. This book shows you why Sloane has been Ash's best friend for so long. There is a man behind the growl.
