(This review is about the novel, not the manga/comics, because I've given up on trying to figure out which edition is which or whatever.)
So here's my main takeaway: this novel needed to be shorter.
Having watched the series and read the manga, I really love this story. That's probably the reason I was able to stick through this whole book, even if it really tired me sometimes. I think before being published, this novel needed heavy editing. It was too repetitive, there was too much unecessary information. So, it took away from the joy of reading the story.
The worse is, we're not even done. More than 500 pages in this book, and there's more. Having read the manga, I know more or less how the story goes, and I fully believe all of it could fit into one book - a big one, sure - but ONE book that was edited and revised. Maybe two smaller ones. But as it is, it's a bit too much, and I think it may scare people who aren't already fans of the story.
I don't think I'll read the other book, to be honest. Maybe once I'm not this tired of reading so many things being repeated over and over again.
But anyways, about the story in itself, I had mostly a great time. I love their dynamic, how it develops, how the "bad b0y" is the one to catch feelings earlier, and I think even the miscummunication (which is something I deeply hate) makes sense when it happens between those two, because of their personalities and ways to view life. My only complain in that regard are the sex scenes, which feel a bit icky, dunno how to explain. Anyhow, that's it.
