Yeah, this story is dark and deals with slavery, torture and rape. But, sometimes I need dark stories when I'm at a dark place myself (sounds more dramatic as it is re:me).
I like that a theme of the story has been that, even if you choose to go into a bad situation - you choose to do it and therefore have control and power. Sky isn't forced to go after Mac and try to save him. That gives him strength and lets him feel control and gives him power to go through with it.
I like that there is always the theme of hope. Yes, Sky doesn't see it for a long time but based on his experiences in the past? I'm not suprised. But, even though Sky is the narrator of this story? You can see the hope for a long time coming and then he can finally see and believe in it.
I guessed early on that Mac has to be an undercover cop/agent/something along the line. :)
I'm a bit sad that there is no definite Happy End/Happy For Now but there are hints for it and that makes me happy. :)
