Couplets: A Love Story by Maggie Millner

emotional fast-paced

2.0

Some of this felt really brilliant: the concept of a millennial break-up coded in the syntax of couplets? Loved it, tale as old as time and extremely technically accomplished. However, tonally it was a mixed bag with too many embedded references to other writers. I also felt that the poetry was better composed than the longer form prose, which at times felt overly complex, distanced, and linguistically beleaguered. Polished and relatable overall, yet lacking the depth I was seeking.
