Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff
5.0
After Nevernight I thought I know Jay Kristoff so Godsgrave can't shock me like that again.. I was so wrong!
The setting, the style, the characters are still perfect in this sequel to the story of my favourite assassin, Mia Corvere!
New turn of events, backstabbing after backstabbing.
I love how the whole world is built upon the history of the Roman empire! Slavery, gladiator fights, the gap between people with different social status is perfectly described and deatiled! I saw everything in front of my eyes while I was reading, I could see the stinky cells under Crow's Nest, the Gladiatii Arenas, the Gladiatii fighting to the death to win their freedom!
Mia's struggle with herself, the fight between what she became after her family's murder and what she thought was right gives her a strange character develoment! She gets to see more of the world she lived in from the perspective of a slave, a Blade and she remembers her childhood and she starts to realize there might be more to her existence than revange! The story of an assassin becomes a story of gladiatii and maybe something more!
The characters are amazingly placed around our Crow. Her old master, her nemesis, her fellow gladiatii who all have their own uniqe, remarkable stories! And as we get to know them, Mia gets to know them and they all make her feel more!
The bloodshed, an unmistakeable sign that we're reading a Jay Kristoff novel, is everywhere! It's more disgusting brutal and dirty than I thought it would be..and honestly.. I love it! This book doesn't try to hide the truth behind battles, fights, poverty and sickness!
I could go on and on how perfect this book, this series is, but I should leave some to your imaginatoin!
Honestly, this world, this realm is so unique amongst fantasy books that I just want to know more about it! The world, the people, the history, the fractions, Mia, the darkin, everything.. I just want to know more!!
Don't read if you have a weak stomach!
Read if you love an epic fantasy with great characters with loads of blood and a little bit of smut to spice it up!
