Habibi by Craig Thompson

Not as good as Blankets, but still a very capturing book. The parallels between the story created by Thompson and Arabic and Judeo-Christian Biblical/Quranic narratives didn't feel forced or extraneous. The most striking feature for me was actually kind of late in the story, when I fully realized that the story was set in the present day. That realization fed back into the earlier chapters and really stunned me: that such events can and do continue to happen. Not an easy story, but a good one. And the artwork really is stunning.
