The Glass Hotel
by Emily St. John Mandel
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Another beautiful and mesmerizing novel by Emily St John Mandel.
Genre: Fiction
Format: π§
Audiobook Narration: βββββ
Pub Date: 3.24.2020
Star Rating: ββββ.5
"Memories are always bent retrospectively to fit individual narratives."
While it took me a bit to get into The Glass Hotel, it wasn't the author's fault - I always struggle to adapt to non-linear timelines and lots of characters. I had to back up to reread a few sections, but it didn't make me love the story any less. It made me appreciate Mandel's ability to connect even the most mundane things.
The Glass Hotel is a rich, vivid story brimming with complex characters that become interwoven in one another's lives. As usual, Mandel does an outstanding job showing real-life events and the disastrous tolls they can have on the world and those around us.
π Non-linear timelines
π° Ponzi scheme
π€― Metaphors galore
ππΌ Character connections
I recommend reading The Glass Hotel if you enjoyed reading Station Eleven or are looking for a complex story that feels real.
