This book had some issues. I saw someone else review about the weird century incongruities and I totally agree. It was confusing there could be electricity but warfare still only uses swords and daggers. Also this book just had rampant emotional manipulation from everyone. I found this exhausting.
And maybe I’ve just seen this too much, but,I am sick of seeing 200+ year old vampires/immortals with 18 year old girls and I felt the way this book was written weirdly fetishizes the 18 year old primary protagonists virginity. I also felt the way the abuse by the duke and Lord Mazeen was portrayed was almost as a titillation not as the horrible emotional and physical torture it was. I find those types of scenarios hard to read no matter what, but, I wish it had been dealt with in a more delicate manner
Unfortunately I think I’ll read the next book because I’m always too curious about what will happen.
