The Goldfinch
by Donna Tartt
This is one of the longest books I have read in a very long time but it was worth it in the end!
I love Donna Tartt’s writing. Her characters feel so REAL. Like I can actually picture them and their voice in my head. They are all so incredibly unique and easy to differentiate.
This felt like a modern classic and an epic tale.
I think the story as a whole deserves 5 stars but my overall enjoyment waned and increased many time throughout it. Sometimes I was thinking “is this really necessary to the plot/overall story”? But in the end I don’t think there is much I would actually end up cutting out. It’s a coming of age mixed with some intrigue and mystery and thrills at the end.
If you love character building, this is one for you.
It’s refreshing to see a morally-grey MC because I found myself not really having hopes or expectations of the story, rather I was just along for the ride, which I think is how it was intended.
