Did not finish book. Stopped at 37%.

I couldn’t get past the fat-phobic treatment of Simone. Even the adults in the story make lots of negative comments about her weight, it’s like the only identifying aspect of her character. I stopped when her grown female teacher told her, “Fewer cakes, bit more sport, you’ll look better in no time.” She was literally telling her to lose weight for the sole purpose of looking better and getting others to like her. Not for me.
