A coming of age story centred on a orphan girl who is desperate to improve her life by any means. I couldn’t put this down, fluctuating between cheering her on and willing her to take another path. My only discomfort was the disparaging way organised religion was discussed, the opinion felt definite and lacking empathy (this air seems like a consistent theme throughout the story). I need to read the next one soon.
