Very middle of the road for me, sorry to say. It had some good emotional beats that did touch my heart but the tone of the whole thing kept taking me out: it was regency themed with very modern syntaxes which made it feel less refined, if that makes sense; more importantly, Oliver's own repeated bouts of dysphoria triggered my own. Not a fault of the book, per se, but it sometimes outbalanced the growth story and theming and was kind of a negative cloud. Again, dysphoria shouldn't have been left behind or undershown but the very monotonous repeated way it was displayed upset me and did not add much to the book. Lastly, the ending was a little too out of character for.me, felt like if this had been a work I read on ao3 I would've just closed the tab. I'm glad this book exists but it's not as in-depth of an exploration of the original text through a new lens as with other works in this series (namely, My Dear Henry). Still enjoyed it! I just wouldn't recommend it past going "hey isn't it cool thus exists?" Felt very tween-y, is my veredict.
