The idea behind this story is extremely compelling, but unfortunately it all comes across a bit ham fisted. There's very little subtlety, and the main character never has to struggle much against her beliefs. She also has very little empathy for others who are struggling within the fascist society of the setting, which seems to be supported by the narrative. I think this book could have been really good, but unfortunately there's nothing for the reader to think about. Maybe this is the right book for someone else out there, but unfortunately the further I got into the book the more of a slog it became to read.
