We really liked The Water Horse. We're definitely Dick King-Smith fans, and we're on a Loch Ness Monster kick lately, so this was a good fit. The brother and sister and grandpa are great characters. The dialogue is funny. Though he does anthropomorphize animal characters, and the Water Horse is no exception, the relationship of the kids and the beast is quite realistic and seems healthy rather than heartbreaking. There were no tears shed at the end--its a happy one. Good family read.
