Coraline by Neil Gaiman

5.0

EDIT: 7 years later and this is still an excellent choice! It's a reread for my Instagram Halloween book club (#autumncourtreads) and it still doesn't disappoint! I listened to Neil Gaiman narrating the book itself and it was PARADISE. Yes, part of the novel feels a bit slow (the middle of the book and a bit afterward) but overall, this is an amazing children's horror book that you, and any child, must read it once, twice, thrice, etc.

It's the second novel I've read from Neil Gaiman and I can assure you that HE'S NOT REPEATING HIMSELF (as many people claim). Each one of his novels is unique, funny and captivating. His books combine perfectly fantasy and terror elements, a fairytale-like tone with adventure novels. He is one of my favorite authors of all time and I totally recommend his novels to everyone-- younger and older audiences EMBRACE YOURSELVES.

"Coraline" is a short children's fantasy novel which talks about universal fears, insecurities and the need to believe in something real instead of creating a world of our own. It's witty, mesmerizing and original-- the perfect present for young ages and for those of us who insist on never growing up!
