Come & Get It by Kiley Reid

I thoroughly enjoyed this!!! For a slow burn, character study based book (generally one of my least favorite type of stories), I actually ate this up. I loved the college dorm setting— it felt realistic and reminded me of my university days. The writing is fantastic and the way Agatha, Millie and Kennedy's past connected to the present made it really easy to understand the current choices they made. I related a ton to Millie romanticizing her prof from feeling important and seen by her prof's attention, and Kennedy's experiences of loneliness in college and anxiety around making friends. The way Reid wrote that scene with Kennedy's uncertainty of meeting up with her potential new friend at a class BBQ event— not wanting to seem desperate for the friendship and waiting for that text back to confirm meeting up – and just all those little experiences like that that go into navigating college really brought me back.

I will be honest though, I didn't know what the book was about even after making it 150 pages in and I still don't know how to explain the overall story without going into everything that happened. I recommend going into it with no expectations and accepting that it's not going to be a very fast paced book. If you're into modern day character studies of intriguing women who just make bad decisions, with some backdrop of socioeconomic and race commentary, then def give this a try.
