The second book in the series was similarly cute compared to the first book (The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic), however it was too similar in my opinion. The characters felt like the same people in slightly different trappings, she was figuring out her magic, but was also a supposedly powerful witch because her familiar shows up (this all happens right at the beginning), many of the situations they find themselves in are the same tropes... the book felt like deja vu. Enjoyable deja vu, but still a little too close to the first novel. I won't go into further details, because I want to avoid spoilers.
