The Fireproof Girl by Loretta Lost

5.0

I'd like to start by thanking Loretta for sending me a review copy of her book, I ended up loving it!

This is a beautifully written story about a girl named Sophie Shields, who works for the Central Intelligence Agency and is very tech savvy when she needs to be. Not at all what I expected it to be. That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it, though, as you can tell by the five star rating.

Sophie has had multiple identities throughout her life and Scarlett, one of her most important ones, meets a boy named Cole Hunter while in the foster system who then ends up playing a huge role in her life. When he dies, her life beings to unravel and she needs to work out what went down on her own. Even though there is already an investigation under way,she doesn't believe what the people around her are telling her.

Sophie is clearly emotionally unstable, which is, what I think, pushes her to be the amazing CIA agent she is. Since she didn't have a good childhood, after being abandoned at birth, she has had to make her own way through life as the adoptive families that she was placed with, that we have been exposed to, were not in any way nice people to live with. The only good thing that came from being in the system was Cole, who she has grown from and lost.

This book was, honestly, one of the better books that I have read recently and I so happy to have been approached by the author because, if not, it is highly unlikely that I would have come across it on my own. Since this book is not in the slightest what I thought it would be, I was instantly hooked and only put the book down for the essentials, such as much needed sleep. It was so intriguing and had me constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next, which I soon found out, as I hardly put it down.

The character development in this story was amazing. From being a young girl who hadn't had much in her life, and not much to live for, to becoming such a successful agent, Sophie, I applaud you, girl! The same goes for Cole too, to be honest. From also being in the system from the age of nine years old
to becoming the successful architect that he was, props to you too.

Loretta, you have done such an amazing job with this book and I can tell that you didn't let attention to detail and description go over your head, well done! I look forward to reading more from you soon.

This book ends on such a nail biting cliffhanger, so, if this review somehow convinced you to read it, do remember to look for 'The Bulletproof Boy'.
