Well that was disappointing…
I feel like the author listened to the complaints about the first 2 books of this trilogy being too much romance. this trilogy was is a romantasy- a romance in a fantasy setting. This whole book was like “WAIT im a deep lore fantasy! I have so much back story and depth! Let me drop this random magic and give you no explanation!!! And there’s another one! PRETEND I MAKE SENSE!!” There was so much chaotic world and magic building in this book. It was nonlinear, messy and honestly nonsensical. I feel like this caused there to be so much back pedaling in the character development. They were flat and nothing they did make sense. Where was our dark, broody MMC? Where was our snarky, sassy, bad ass FMC? They were not in this book. Even the smut was lack luster and this author always has the best smut!!
I almost DNFed every day but I just kept pushing in hopes it would get better- definitely should have
