Arch-Conspirator by Veronica Roth

2.0

I love Antigone as a story and I think that’s why I’m inclined to give this book a high review. However, Roth didn’t write Antigone. She wrote Arch Conspirator. I’ll be honest-i almost stopped reading one chapter in when Polyneices referred to Antigone as “Tig.” What a horrible cringey nickname for one of the bravest literary women of all time. But I kept reading and I’m glad I did. I liked the apocalyptic narrative and the idea that women’s bodies had to be protected and such. I wish it was a little but better developed. The ending was abrupt and certain story lines are glossed over. All in all, I think this book would be a good introduction for a middle schooler or high schooler struggling to get through Antigone. However, I’ve certainly seen and read better adaptations
