The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren

3.5

i really enjoyed the soulmate equation when i read it last year - i really felt like jess and river had some amazing chemistry, and i loved jess as a main character. i even felt like i wouldn't have minded if the book were a little bit longer, so we could could get more from the characters, including fizzy

however, something about the true love experiment just didn't work for me. i didn't love the element of the reality tv show, and something about about fizzy and connor's relationship just felt off to me. i don't know if this will make sense to anybody but me, but fizzy in connor's pov didn't feel like the same fizzy we got from her pov.

there were a lot of things i did like about this one - for one, i loved the meta-romance aspects! readers that enjoy reading romance often feel like that makes them 'less than' (i know that I've definitely felt like this from time to time), and it was interesting to see how fizzy combats that from the perspective of a romance writer.

i also really loved connor, though i kept forgetting to imagine him as being with a British accent. i absolutely loved his relationship with stevie, and the fact that he wasn't this perfect love interest, and that he knew that there were things he needed to work on.

and, of course, CLo's writing is just so effortless and fun that i found this book super readable and fun!
