DID NOT FINISH: 99%
Lost me more and more as the book went on. Cat and I do not share all of the same political commitments, which is fine. That happens. But feminist scholarship with a political agenda can and should be done more responsibly. The sweeping, decontextualized anti sex work conclusions belie a lack of nuance. Cat is not an anthropologist, and she really makes some damning assumptions. The book is strongest in the way it navigates and refutes some biological essentialist arguments. Overall, it’s giving first-world feminism, which isn’t always wrong; it’s just woefully incomplete.
