Nothing new, but damnit if Eddie isn’t entertaining

Eddie Flynn books don’t bring a lot of new things to the crime thriller genre, but they are always entertaining. I started the series with Thirteen and was inspired to read the rest of the series, and I’m glad I did.

Eddie is a likable guy, even if his sleight-of-hand skills push the boundaries of believability. At times I thought, “Does Eddie have an actual superpower, or are all of these people just numb from the neck down?” But if you can push past your disbelief over *some* of his ruses and cons, the plot will keep you hooked.

Where these books really shine are actually the moments where Eddie’s doing his job - being an attorney. The courtroom scenes are often more intense than the action sequences, and his quick wit and wry humor will seal your affection.

Overall, the Flynn series is great for fans of crime thrillers who aren’t looking for an overload of dark, moody detectives and horrific crime scenes. Eddie keeps it light, even when he’s facing down the Russian mob.
