I loved Ken Follett's older books, like Key to Rebecca and The Eye of the Needle, but haven't really liked his newer ones. Whiteout is newish, from 2004, and more timely than most. It is the story of a pharmaceutical lab that is broken into and the woman who must track down the thieves, in a snowstorm, in Scotland. She is also in love with the much older owner of the lab. Yes, there is suspense but mostly the bad guys are all bad and annoying and the heroine is so pure that she is absurd. A quick summer read at best.
