I just finished the entire series, so I'm posting an all over review here because I feel like I read the same book three times. I enjoyed them, but only barely. There is only so much giggling you can handle or "knowing glances passed between friends" lines you can read before it gets boringly repetitive.
What I felt lacked the most is the development of the characters. I held out hope for the final book when I learned of his childhood trauma, but again it was dealt with swiftly and without flourish, leaving me wanting for more substance. You don't get past years of abuse simply because your housekeeper says "you were a nice lad" honestly that's just lazy writing. But I digress.
Maybe I'm just a sap for slowburn. Maybe I'm just a fool for developed relationships founded in mutual attraction /and/ a cognitive connection.
Both were lacking here. I love when HR has that immediate attraction between characters that set them apart from the rest of the mingling masses, but if that(and a few shared words and poetic waxing about "wit and intellect") is the only basis for their relationship? It's not good, my man. It leaves you with a skeletal romance that contains much of the same characters and relationships only with different names and locations.
I was going to leave the third book a 4 star because it was promising at the start, but the ending whacked it down with the rest.
They weren't bad, I just won't be rereading these anytime soon. Or ever.
