The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins
4.0

Confession: I don't think I've ever actually read Jane Eyre. I know the story, of course, but I've never gotten into that genre...no Bronte--or Austin for that matter--for me, thanks.

Anyway, I liked listening to this modern retelling of Jane Eyre. I like the suspense of the plot, the different narrative voices, and the little nods to Jane Eyre. Some of those allusions, however, seemed...awkward....like "Reader, I fucked him." OKAY THEN.

Overall an enjoyable read. Recommend.
