The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin
3.0
Honestly I am just so upset and disappointed.
I was so excited for this book. Noah Shaw has been one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and I loooove Mara. But. In this book, everything changed.
Characters I used to love and enjoy so much to be with were... off. None of the characters felt true to themselves, to the character development we saw throughout the Mara Dyer trilogy. Mara didn't feel like Mara, and Noah definitely didn't feel like Noah.
My biggest issue with this book was that absolutely nothing happened. It was just very boring and generic??? In some way??? The beginning was slow and extremely boring, and was mostly just Noah and Mara wanting to have sex with each other. I just didn't care about any of it.
I remember LOVING the Mara Dyer trilogy and the story and characters and everything that Michelle Hodkin created; so where did all of that go? Why does this feel like a whole set of new, bland and two dimensional characters with absolutely no plot and just.... what happened?
I had such high hopes for this book and maybe that's why I'm so disappointed. I did enjoy some parts, but the boring and monotonous scenes were much more overwhelming. I do, however, see myself reading the rest of the series because my foolish heart is still holding on to hope that the series will get better. That Michelle Hodkin just needs to get back on her feet and needed to create some sort of conflict where there was none. And now hopefully she's gonna clean up her mess.
I will say that the ending was the best part of the whole book; probably the only good part if I'm being brutally honest. This first book was just unfortunately a bad start to what will hopefully be a good series.
