Self-Made Boys: A Great Gatsby Remix by Anna-Marie McLemore

5.0

If you hated reading The Great Gatsby in high school and thought it would be better if it were just a little gayer, boy oh boy, is this book for you.  Nicolás Caraveo and Jay are reimagined as trans boys in this YA retelling. There's a lot happening gender-wise, race-wise (Daisy hides her Latina roots in order to pass), and class-wise, and it's all beautifully told. I am so glad this series is taking classics and making them, you know, good.
