An incredible insight into the sequence of events, but also the social history of the second world war in Europe. With remarkable tact, sympathy and understanding, in this companion to the BBC series Ree's brings us to a perturbing picture of the events of the 20th century: the reality of it. An inquiry into how, given the circumstances, ordinary people can become a part of an extraordinary evil. The pain, the frenzy, the apparent chaotic swing of historys pendulous arm. A must read for anyone hoping to understand that time and place in humanity.
