The epic ending this series deserved. The stakes were incredibly high in this one, and I appreciated that the author didn’t pull punches, even when it hurt (and boy, did it hurt). The growth that all of the characters went through throughout the series was really great to see, and I especially appreciated seeing Elo and his interactions with Arren, even making me somewhat understand a character that I hated. Kissen and Skedi were still my favourites, but I enjoyed everyone’s perspectives and thought their arcs made sense, although they were a bit of a gut punch.

The only real issue I had with this one was that our characters did spend quite a bit of time apart again, but that didn’t impede my enjoyment too much, and I liked seeing them get to know and interact with different people. This is a story that’s very much focused on war and strategy, which isn’t always my jam, but my investment in the world and characters carried me through, and I did think it was done well. Overall, I thought this was a very strong trilogy with rich worldbuilding, great characters, and a deeply emotional ending that left an impact.
