Carling was a really inconsistent character, poorly chosen in my opinion. These books seem to actually be decreasing in quality as the series continues... I'm not sure I'll continue reading. Rune's character (and Carling's) was completely different from other books, which was disappointing.
ALSO: What the FUCK is up with the pushing a woman into wearing makeup and changing her wardrobe? I was pretty tolerant of the whole bit with the clothing, but forcing a woman (a practically IMMORTAL woman who is supposedly already gorgeous) to wear makeup? That is the biggest pile of sexist bullshit I've seen in a romance novel, and I've read a LOT of romance novels. I was PISSED during that scene. Absolutely pissed. The idea that Carling has to *change* in such a superficial way was just a crock of crap. The way it was done was completely terrible as well.
