This is the best book I've read for pleasure (not non-fiction or academic in nature) in quite awhile. I liked the first season of the tv show when it came out, and figured I would finally read the book. I may have a higher affinity for the main character, since we share a name, but she did get on my nerves (in a good way - written like a real human being!) a fair share of the time. The one thing that stood out to me was Diana Gabaldon's dedication to accuracy and details, considering she wrote this book during the infancy of the internet, and having never been to Scotland. It really shines now when everything said in a book is google-able at the drop of a hat. If you like 18th century history, a little suggestion of magic, some real twin-flame level romance, adventure, high-quality banter, with a dash of blood and violence, this book would be great for you.
