Why Simple Wins: Escape the Complexity Trap and Get to Work That Matters by Lisa Bodell

slow-paced

1.0

"Once people start spending their time on valuable tasks- things that feel worthy of their time and are in support of a purpose- the culture will follow."

This was sort of a book hand-me-down, so I had very few expectations. That turned out to be a good thing. I found this to be repetitive, dense, and ultimately the exact opposite of the philosophy Bodell claims to be teaching. While I agree that organizations are often entrenched in legacy modes/approaches and are resistant to reduction of process, this book overcomplicated any potential solution. A big suggestion was the creation of a simplification role/team, as if people need another person to vet their work.

This book used so many words and didn't say much at all. I know I'm not often a fan of this type of writing- the I know the solution and let me write a book about it approach- but I did try to give it a genuine chance. The other reviews said her talks are a lot more impactful/helpful, so perhaps I'll look into viewing those instead.
