Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross

3.0

This book picks up right after the events of the first book, Divine Rivals. Two weeks have passed since Iris returned home bruised and heartbroken from the front, but the war is far from over. Roman is missing and the city of Oath continues to dwell in a state of disbelief and ignorance.

I was desperate for the continuation of Iris and Rowan’s story but I walked away dissatisfied with the results. Although their story does continue I feel like Ruthless Vows pivots away from them as the main characters and focuses on the gods and the war. The few interactions we do get of Iris and Rowan feel stilted and awkward. There are reasons for this of course but it still didn’t serve the vibes I was craving ya know. I also think it was quite repetitive and much of the story or sections could have been cut and the good juicy portions or main story lines could have all been included within the first book. Basically this did not need to be two books. That being said, the writing was pleasant and I’m happy I read it.
