This was enjoyable enough, but felt almost too slight for its own good - it came and went extremely briskly, which to some is certainly a selling point, though I personally tend to value a story with a bit more meat on its bones.  But Koepp's writing offers plenty of entertainment value, with a sardonic touch to the prose and a deft hand sketching unique characters with plenty of personality (even if without much depth to them, they remain not much more that mere sketches).  The concept is certainly an intriguing one - a fast-spreading fungal plague isn't exactly a completely original concept, but Koepp's depictions of the fungus are vivid and gripping, especially in the prologue sequence set in Australia.  And the action and suspense setpieces, once they get going (there's a fair amount of table-setting that takes place after that prologue), have that addictive, thriller-y quality that keeps you reading just one more page.  It's a zippy and somewhat shallow but entertaining read.
