Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

emotional reflective sad

5.0

There are many things I'd like to write about this book but most of them seem cheap and fake.
I guess this is the kind of book you call "raw" "emotional" or something along the lines, but i won't do it.
This is a book that knocks a real punch into you. Reading it felt kind of like watching a movie, i can't pinpoint exactly why. There were many moments where I was on the verge of tears, am I even now as I write down my review.
The formula was different than what I expected. From the blurb i thought each chapter would start with a trip to H Mart. Instead it's more of a continuous story.
I have one regret on this book and it's my poor vocabulary regarding various products. I wasn't able to imagine many dishes because simply I've never heard about or taste many ingredients, and even if i did, i wasn't aware of their English names. But this is just my personal struggle as a non native speaker
This book also provides a special bond with Michelle's music. as you read into many of her lyrics you can track were they came from and why. It's one of a kind experience
