Dirk Pitt delivers what it promises: melodramatic action heroics with ridiculous villains and incredible plots to save the world. Still, that's something you could get from any Dirk Pitt book; a bit of graphic transphobia by the protagonists in Shockwave makes me recommend you pick up a different one.

A villain is a transphobic caricature; only implied until a paragraph near the end which goes into "the end of the crying game" territory. This is not integral to the plot and can be read around but is a nasty, graphic shock for the unsuspecting and makes it difficult to relate to the main characters.
