Hyperion by Dan Simmons

adventurous reflective fast-paced

After reading the nine books of The Expanse and its constant threat of dying from G-force induced strokes, it's nice to pick up a more Golden Age Sci-Fi that deals mainly with the constant threat of being torn apart by lasers or omnipotent demons made of knives.

The reveal of
The Hegemony being a fallible parallel of the worst parts of the USA
cinched it as a banger for me. And in 1989! What the eff.

If even one of the next three books stick the landing this very well may be the best Space Opera I'll ever read.
