Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

reflective

3.5

my favorite part of de saint-exupery’s memoir was recognizing the obvious inspirations and bit by bit conception of the little prince—the sheep, the snake, the well, the baobabs, and even the little prince! all of them were there to greet me like an old friend :”)

chapter 6 was my favorite out of all but i dont really feel like expounding on that yet !

i also appreciated his denunciation of war and the vicious cycle of violence it perpetuates, and his recognition of bureaucracy and poverty suffocating mankind from their true expression

however, de saint-exupery was a white man cushioned by a colonial world, and ever so subtly were his colonial mindset and prejudice reflected in his writings, particularly his sentimentalization of slavery. this was off-putting to read and genuinely made me think this is why they tell you not to meet your heroes

i’m definitely going to revisit this and add more to my annotations

might update this review too as these are just my initial musings
