Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
5.0

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tropes: Space exploration/habitation, dying Earth, evolution, war, inter-species communication

Children of Time is an incredibly smart exploration of what it could look like to colonize space using advanced methods with evolution and what happens when that doesn't go exactly as planned. It's incredibly good, and I would absolutely read it over again, but it's almost a little too technical and smart. If you need a book that isn't overly mentally stimulating, this may not be for you.

I compliment this book on it's ability to help me start getting over my fear of spiders. Prior to reading this book, I had night terrors of spiders falling in the bed. Since, I haven't had one, and am able to be much more approachable with spiders, especially jumping spiders. I thank "fuzzy palps" specifically for this.

Incredibly intelligent, stimulating, and fulfilling a sense of curiosity, Children of Time is absolutely a top-tier sci-fi novel. It ends in a way that segues into the second book, but wraps up the story well enough that you could absolutely just read the first one.
