Nothing Much Happens: Cozy and Calming Stories to Soothe Your Mind and Help You Sleep by Kathryn Nicolai

relaxing slow-paced

4.0

I followed this podcast for a while but these days prefer to chill out with ambient music, finding I don't need the stories so much. The village of Nothing Much - which seems to be a sizeable town really, as it has quite a few amenities you wouldn't find in most villages - has a varied cast of characters although it took me a while to realise there were multiple viewpoint characters, even if Marmalade and Crumb's human (who seems to now have got herself a fella. Changes the dynamic) is possibly the main PoV.
Certain people have pointed out that it is all a bit middle-class, people are either too apparently well-off for the jobs they do or they seem to have no visible means of support, and there's a completely unresolved sense that everyone is minding everyone else's business, which can be good - you have a support network - or bad. Also I keep wondering about the geography of the place. Where exactly is it? I'm assuming it's the USA and going for somewhere in the American Northwest (Oregon or Washington State, up that way) or else to the east of the Great Lakes. Did it send me to sleep? Yes, like the music of The Enid (post-prog-rock from the 1970s and '80s) and like them, in a good way.
