Twittering Birds Never Fly, Volume 2 by Kou Yoneda

1.0

Twittering Birds Never Fly by Kou Yoneda is a series that stands out in the boys’ love genre for literary and artistic skill. In the second volume readers will find a continuation of the high standards set before diving farther into its characters and plot while ratcheting the drama. A poignant volume the first time I read volume 2 it had me in tears.

Regarding the English edition a new team took on Volume 2. Colour pages are included in the eBook this time. The localization is better, only a few points I could make, similar to some of the challenges the series presents. While it is good to see improvement in other respects, there is censorship present in volume 2.

A couple of panels are darkened with extra shading obscuring images depicting
childhood sexual abuse.
This flashback scene was one that came to mind for the potential of censorship in an English edition. So, I’m not 100% surprised. On the other hand, given the context and treatment of the subject matter I also felt like it might pass unadulterated.

This isn’t the first content similar to this that has been published by Digital Manga either. More recently the publisher has also taken a standpoint against altering series with controversial content other publishers will not publish. So, one has to wonder what about Twittering Birds Never Fly crosses a line introducing such potential legal concern but, not some other titles. If you are very concerned about the content then the English edition should suit. But it doesn’t serve my standards.
