Ares by Carly Spade
5.0
Actual Rating: 4.5
I really wish I was allowed to give half stars because this definitely deserves more than just 4. So, with that, I will round up to 5 for this review. I also would've finished this book a few days sooner, but the damn holidays got in the way of my reading. LOL
Eros has always been my favorite out this series by Carly Spade, but I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I instantly fell in love with Ares, which is saying a lot since he is a god not usually liked nor associated with love. I think Carly did an amazing job at keeping to the true nature of Ares, the God of War, but allowing us to see a deeper part of him that made him human in my eyes. He was rough around the edges, but with a softness to him that made him vulnerable and extremely likeable. Ares was brooding, but charming...angry, but passionate...dark, but captivatingly mysterious. I loved his personality, his demeanor, and the way he spoke to Harm. He never once treated her like she was beneath him.
Speaking of Harm, I really liked her too. Despite her upbringing and the dark cloud of unease and anger swallowing her every single day, she was never a victim. She never complained or whined in a way that made you feel sorry for her, but rather in a way that made you feel sympathetic and empathetic for her. She is a fighter, in more ways than one, and I was rooting for her the whole way through the story.
I also really loved the amped up romance in this one. The scenes were spicy and left me wanting more. But they were still done in a very classy way and with flawless elegance.
I think I need to reread Eros now and see which one is truly my favorite before Poseidon comes out in February. :-)
