Son by Lois Lowry
4.0

This is a great ending to The Giver Quartet. It ties in the previous stories so well and hits you right in the feels.

Claire is a Birthmother in a community where everything is completely structured, down to the citizens feelings. Newchildren #36 is Claire's product, one of 50 Newchildren for the year. He doesnt pass muster though and is held back from being given out at the ceremonies to the parents that signed up for children. As the year progresses Claire starts to have stronger feelings about the product and visits with #36 and slowly falls in love with her son. Due to community standards though, the child isnt fit once again to be passed on to a family and is going to be "released". Claire is not the only one that has fallen in love with a product though. Jonas, a special young boy that has just reached his twelfth year has a connection with the boy as well and in a desperate attempt to save his life runs away with him. Claire, just as desperate, runs away too to follow her son.

We mainly follow Claire's story in this fourth book as she fights to be reunited with first her memories and then her son.
