Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
3.0
If you’re looking for a gory, spooky, horror book, this one will not be for you. This is more of a social horror/historical/fantasy novel in my opinion, that may have been a little mis-marketed.
Silver Nitrate is the fifth book I’ve read by this author with each book being in the 3 star range with the exception of The Beautiful Ones which I rated 4.5 stars.
Silvia is a talented writer and this book is no exception. One thing I appreciate about her work is that she always spends a lot of time developing her characters; however, the downside of this is that the stories become a very slow burn.
I got about 70% through this book before anything really “happened” which was a bit too long for me. As the story progressed I just became more and more disinterested in the plot, which is not a flaw of the story, I think it just comes down to preference.
Overall, the plot of this story was unique and I loved the character development;however, I just wasn’t in the mood for a slow burn which impacted my overall enjoyment of the book.
If you enjoy slow burn, social horror books, give this one a try!
