The Night Shift by Alex Finlay

4.0

After a very long time, I’ve finished a book in 24 hours, and it has left me utterly shaken. I am shook. Speechless. The eerie tingling hasn’t left me even hours after finishing the story. It spooked me to the core. Never have I ever woken up in the middle of the night (2:17 am) thinking about mysterious murders and a plot with no loopholes.

The story starts slow, with gray, unreliable characters, but as it picks up, the mystery thickens, and unexpected revelation bombs drop one after another. Multiple POVs and dual timelines, with main characters who are victims ridden by trauma, enrich the plot, giving the reader more insight than the characters themselves. While some parts and the ending were abrupt and lacked closure, this didn’t detract from my overall experience.

I’ll need a break from murder mysteries to cleanse my palate—and also to find another one as gripping as this. Highly recommended for those who love a story that lingers long after the last page is turned.
