not entirely sure what i just read but dang was it a good time. Easily one of the most unique books I’ve ever read. The closest thing I could comp it to would be Midsommar but even that doesn’t entirely encompass what was going on in this. It was so weird. It was CREEPY. Even in the early chapters, it was unsettling. Reading this was a bit terrifying if I’m being am honest because there was this constant presence of knowing something awful was about to happen and then when something awful did happen it was like “oh no, that’s not the big awful thing that’s just one awful thing leading up to it!”

Needless to say, this was a perfect read for Halloween time. It was creepier than I expected, which I loved. The characters were all really great and well done. I adore Mars soooooo much. And the writing in this is spectacular. I noticed it in the first chapter how engaging it is and the tone of it was just all super good. Also the little pieces of humor sprinkled in this were amazing. My only minor complaint was that the ending was a tad fast for my liking (especially with so much build up to that point). It felt like we finally got to the really big thing and then it was over so I wish that could’ve been an additional chapter, but this is so minor I didn’t even take off half a star for it. This book was amazing and I loved it even more than I thought I would!
