I was really excited to begin reading this book and I absolutely adore Katharine Kerr's Deverry series. Unfortunately, this just wasn't up to par.
I'm not entirely sure what it was about this book that I disliked but the first part of it I had to push myself to continue reading it. Whereas, with her Deverry series, I enjoyed it from the get-go the way this book is written left me with a slightly disjointed feeling. Things were only partially explained or not done clear enough for me to tumble into the world and I have to wonder whether it is because this is written in first person.
Although I will get the sequal to see how things continue I'm definitely not in any particular rush to do so.
