All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby
5.0
I mean, hot damn!
This has got to be one of the most emotionally powerful books I’ve read in a long time. The characters and settings were so vivid and detailed and personable that it really was like reading about a real life neighboring town.
What made this book so powerful was the heavy religious tone intertwined with the historical aspects of the setting, many characters’ ideals and emotions, and especially (part of) the motive behind the main crime being investigated. Many times throughout the story there were moments when certain characters would state facts and/or emotional points that should elicit important conversations in this day and age regarding the subject matter largely presented throughout the book.
There actually wasn’t a whole lot of major action as the story focused mainly on Titus’ investigation - as well as him dealing with his own secrets and harsh past - but what action there was was brutally graphic and vividly detailed in its gruesomeness and violence and other quite disturbing factors. It balanced well with the tamer emotional aspects of the story and made for a very compelling read. And the ending was one of the best endings to a book I’ve ever read.
A definite 5 star book. Very highly recommended and I cannot wait to check out more of S. A. Cosby’s works.
