All-Star Superman: DC Compact Comics Edition by Grant Morrison

4.0

Finally locked in and finished this story. It’s no wonder people often mention this as the essential Superman story. Each chapter encapsulates a different aspect of what makes the character who he is, the definition of a true super hero. While some of the early and middle chapters can feel a bit wacky and unserious, the way the ending actually comes back and ties them in to the overall story redeemed those moments for me. Seeing Clark’s character trying to do everything that he can despite knowing that his time is running out was probably my favorite aspect of the comic run, and his relationship to Earth and being human despite being an alien are just great. So much iconic imagery within these panels as well. If you’re wanting to read something about Superman, this is definitely a great read so long as you know a good basic chunk of Superman lore and his cast of characters. 4/5 stars.
